Early Childhood Development

Education begins at birth. Families, care providers, schools, and communities each play critical roles in helping children's healthy development. The Steans Family Foundation understands that young children's earliest experiences and environment set the foundation for future development and educational success. That is why the Foundation focuses on supporting the holistic development of children from birth to age 5.

Results we seek in this priority area include:

  • Increasing the number of children involved in quality, early childhood services
  • Children ages 0 - 5 achieving their developmental milestones
  • Children entering school ready to learn
Priority Areas:
  • Expansion of evidence based home visiting models
  • Expansion of slots for children ages 0-3 when appropriate (for example, the conversion of Head Start slots for 4-5 year olds to 0-3)
  • Technical assistance to access stimulus and other competitive public or start-up funds
  • Attain accreditation or meet other quality enhancement standards
  • Help stabilize child care centers or core services within the organizations
