The Steans Family Foundation (SFF) dedicates time, resources, and skills within the North Lawndale community, located on Chicago’s west side, and the North Chicago community, a city just south of Waukegan, 40 miles north of downtown Chicago. SFF believes effective revitalization can occur within the existing social, educational, and economic networks that create and sustain communities. SFF believes that with investment, coupled with a strong policy ecosystem, communities can thrive.
Programs
The Steans Family Foundation works in partnership with residents, community stakeholders and like-minded institutions to build and enhance programs that advance early childhood development, K-12 education, college completion, workforce development, job creation, and increased economic opportunity, as well as special projects. In addition, SFF supports policy efforts that bolster work on the ground, specifically focused education, employment, justice, and community development.

The Steans Family Foundation has an invitation-only application process and does not accept unsolicited letters of inquiry or proposals. SFF actively engages with an extensive range of organizations, community groups and other foundations; monitors ongoing and emerging strategies; and invites proposals from potential grantees based on priorities set by the Foundation’s Trustees.
