Director of Research & Evaluation – North Lawndale
Jeff Sternberg builds data strategy and reporting systems to track, measure, and evaluate impact of the Foundation’s investments across economic opportunity, housing, education, workforce development, and policy initiatives. His role includes building a data-driven culture, conducting background research, engaging partner organizations, and building a data profile of the North Lawndale community across social sectors.
Prior to joining the Steans Family Foundation, Jeff served as the Deputy Director of Research & Outcomes, Data Strategy & Analytics for the City of Detroit, holding responsibility for measuring, analyzing, and reporting on the impact of the City’s $826 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding. Jeff also served as Lecturer at University of Michigan’s Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy.
Jeff holds a BA in Philosophy from Michigan State University, and an MA and PhD in Sociology from Northeastern University in Boston. His research and writing have focused on cities, the municipal state, labor, the future of work, and politics.
Jeff lives in Chicago with his wife Natasha, four-year old son Misha, two cats, and a dog. He performs improv comedy in Detroit and Chicago and met his wife doing AmeriCorps NCCC FEMA Corps, travelling the country and doing national community service projects around disaster relief.
